Advice to a Friend - New Mamas Thinking About Cloth Diapering

My friend called me a couple of weeks ago to ask me for some advice on using cloth diapers. We both have 5 month old babies (they were born a week apart).
While I have been cloth diapering since my son was 2 weeks old, she has been going with the more common trend of buying disposable diapers.
She is concerned because she has spent over $400 on disposable diapers in the 5 months her daughter has been in the world. Whereas I have spent close to $600 total for a cloth diaper stash that will last me until my son is potty trained.
My advice to her: try different kinds of cloth diapers before you go ahead and buy a bunch of one single brand (which I is what I did - luckily I chose a good brand!).
When I first bought my stash, I got an all in one package - 12 waterproof GroVia shells, 24 snap in soakers, and 3 fuzzi bunz with hemp cloth inserts for overnight use. The reason I told my friend to try different kinds is that I love love love my fuzzi bunz! I wish I had bought more!
So far she has tried G-diapers from Whole Foods. From what I understood they are a big no-no. Good thing she didn't buy a whole stash!
My advice if you are thinking about cloth diapering - buy one of many different kinds. Pick what you like, and stick with it! Don't get stuck with a diaper you don't like, it could be a messy situation!
